“Davis” one of the award winning short films in last year's Buffalo Screams Film Festival was first given birth in last year's 48 hour Film Festival. Competing teams are given a genre, an object and a line of dialogue and given 48 hours to write, film, edit, and score their films. The time limit separates the men from the boys, the women from the girls , as you only have a short time period to get it right. There is no time to polish. I have seen rather painful films come out of the festival and I have seen true gems. People can get pretty creative as the clock runs down. Over the years I have been an extra, a Director of Photography, an actor and a P.A. I have been afraid to challenge myself and sign up as a writer, maybe one of these years I will. I have been involved with winning teams and teams that didn't lose, but confused their audiences. The common thread with every year in the 48 hour Film Festival is that I had fun, worked with some great people and enjoyed watching movie making at its very raw level. Who knows, maybe this year some of the short films will be submitted to the Buffalo Screams Film Festival and may grow to a feature, or another project; or just be enjoyed as they are, something for Buffalo to scream about.
