As the headline says, Happy New Year from Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival - may all your dreams (and nightmares) for 2013 come true!
Running a film festival is a lot of hard work, but it's also rewarding. It's been our pleasure to bring such great films as El Monstro Del Mar!, Absentia and Exhumed - to name just a few - to Western New York, and to showcase the work of such local filmmakers as Sam Qualiana, Louis Winters, and Rod Durick (again, to name just a few). It's always been our goal to bring the best genre films from around the world to Buffalo, and to spotlight the most talented filmmakers from here and elsewhere; just look over our "Past Winners" page to see some of the great international films we've screened, including Isaac Ezban's amazing Cosas Feas from Mexico and this year's The Casebook of Eddie Brewer from the UK, and we believe we're filling a genuine need in our community. We show movies for people who love unique movies, not people who plan their schedules around the latest offering at the multiplex, and for people who don't automatically dismiss films for their genre content. And we've brought real filmmakers to this community, people like Debbie Rochon, Roy Frumkes, Melantha Blackthorne and Brett Kelly, not to mention our special guest Paige Davis from genre distributor Alternative Cinema/POP CInema Studios, who has provided invaluable advice to local filmmakers serious about their craft.
After putting on three editions of Bufffalo Screams we've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't; some people think about the Big Picture while others think short term. I'm happy to say that the festival is going to continue, albeit following a bit of a rebirthing process. We're taking the necessary steps to grow this festival into the type of event we want it to be - look for exciting announcements about our new brand in the near future. In the meantime, we wish to thank all of the talented filmmakers who have made our festival what it is by submitting their work to it,and to our board members, volunteers, sponsors, and patrrons.
